[You should edit this draft e-mail to make it personal to you.]

Dear Candidate for Mayor:

I reside in Ward 8 [on xyz Street] in the planned community of Erin Mills. From my home, I can walk or cycle to the neighbourhood shopping centre at 4099 Erin Mills Parkway to [edit to say what you consider essential: obtain groceries, visit my pharmacy, dentist, bank, veterinarian, etc.]. My neighbourhood of [enter your neighbourhood e.g. Arbour Green, Olde Burnhamthorpe, Sawmill Valley, Bridlepath/Promontory] has only one walkable “Mixed Use” area for the essential shops and services:

"required in order to create complete communities with destinations that are close enough for walking and cycling to be the most attractive option." (See “Mississauga Official Plan 2051” at 10.2.6.2)

There are no walkable “Convenience Commercial” areas in my neighbourhood. [delete if you reside in Pheasant Run]

I recognize that Mississauga needs new and infill housing that is affordable. Housing is a human right in Canada. However, new housing should be built in locations with walkable amenities and should not destroy existing residential neighbourhoods by removing most of their existing walkable shops and services.

If you are elected as mayor, will you uphold the following principles in the draft “Mississauga Official Plan 2051”?

10.2.6.2 The planned function of lands designated Mixed Use is to provide a variety of
retail, service and other uses to support the surrounding residents and businesses.
Development on Mixed Use sites that includes residential uses will be required to
contain a mixture of permitted uses. This mix of uses is required in order to create
complete communities with destinations that are close enough for walking and cycling
to be the most attractive transportation option. In addition to mitigating traffic
congestion, this enhances human health and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

10.2.6.3 Redevelopment of Mixed Use sites must maintain the same amount of non-
residential floor space.

I look forward to hearing your commitment to ensuring that existing complete communities retain adequate walkable and cyclable, necessary shops and services, and that any new development will maintain the same amount of essential shop and service floor space.

Thank you,
